Biodiesel Equipment
The reasons for making bio fuels are very clear. They give energy independence back to not just the US, but also to the individual consumer who can now homebrew their own batch of fuel to use for their car or other applications. Biodiesel equipment is very simple in principle, but becomes more complex as the size of batches increase, higher efficiency levels are attained, and extra processes as with filtering used cooking oil are desired.
The biggest and most important piece of biodiesel equipment is the processor. This piece is essentially an agitator and heater. A basic mixture of a lye catalyst and methanol will be made in the processor after which, the vegetable oil will be added. This mixture is heated and then agitated for a period of time. You can find ready made ones online as well as plans that instruct you how to make this equipment at home.
Because making bio fuels involves chemicals, accurate measuring tools are very necessary as part of any set of biodiesel equipment. This means measuring cups (or jugs) and thermometers. Also because of chemicals, it means safety accessories are an absolute must. Safety gloves, masks, towels, and chemical resistant aprons are a must to ensure that anyone working with these chemicals is kept safe.
Finally, barrels, hoses, bungs, and funnels to move the various chemicals and batches into and out of the processor. These are setup to reduce exposure to oxygen, improving the quality of the fuel, as well as avoid spills and accidents. As efficiency because a bigger issue, greater control and accuracy in measurement are needed so more complex pieces are required.
